community is at the heart of our profession, and our society. the best way to elevate your personal brand, expand your network or develop new skills is through volunteer service.
Yes, we know. “Volunteer” might as well be a four-letter word. But hear us out. You got into this profession because you felt a need to connect — to be understood and to understand.
Volunteering is a way to get that connection with others who “get” you. New volunteers find instant comradery with those they serve alongside. Long-time volunteers think of service more as an excuse to hang out with their friends than actual work. And for those whose given family is no longer in the picture, our volunteer community becomes a replacement family, helping members navigate adulthood and the various stages of their lives.
Volunteering is so much more than writing social copy (but it can be that, too, if that’s what you want). The point is that you get to choose, and really, how often does that happen?
